One of our students, Lucy, had a very exciting Thursday this week. Lucy, her mum, Emily, and Joanna were interviewed by Kat Orman, a presenter at BBC Radio Oxford. Lucy showed Kat her BTDA Grade 1 Classical Ballet certificate. She spoke about her love for ballet and her exam success. Lucy also taught Kat how to do a plie. Besides speaking about Lucy's achievement, we also wanted to raise awareness of the many children with disabilities, like Lucy who has Down's Syndrome, that are restricted in the activities they are able to access, only being able to attend specialised clubs and classes. This should not be the case and Lucy, who attends class like any other student, is a shining example of this. Lucy, Emily and all of us at Deddington Ballet School hope that Lucy's story will inspire teachers of dance, music and sports to actively engage with children with impairments or physical challenges. We also hope that parents are encouraged to take their children to classes and work with teachers to make the arts inclusive. You can listen to the interview on Monday 29th October 2018 at 10am. Joanna and Sam x
